Styles Sheeps Milk Iced Dessert

Posted on Fri Jun 2012 by Claire

On an adventure to Somerset last week, I turned into a big kid when we came across Styles, an ice cream vendor selling sheeps milk iced dessert by the scoop and in more than one flavour! I had to check and double check with the vendor as I could not believe that I could potentially eat an ice cream in a cone, something I haven’t had for over 11 years now! To my delight, the vendor confirmed my dreams were about to come true, a Styles Dark Chocolate Sheeps Milk Iced Dessert in a cone was coming my way…as you can see by my photo, I am one very happy fussy foodie (dairy free) bunny!

I always try to be honest in my reviews and so I will say for me, the initial taste is what I call ‘animally’ (sounds ridiculous doesn’t it!), but I think this is purely because I have had rice and oat milk for so long that I have forgotten what milk from an animal can taste like. Saying this, after the first mouthful, the ‘animally’ taste subsided / I got used to it and the rich chocolaty flavour took hold. This product is simply delicious. I was grinning from ear to ear and had zero side effects which is a massive bonus.

Styles Sheeps Milk Iced Dessert comes in a range of different flavours including Dark Chocolate, Simply Strawberry, Vanilla Bean and Just Blueberry. Not only is this dessert suitable for those who cannot have cows milk, it is gluten free, has all the nutritional benefits of sheeps milk and is a healthier option with under 75 calories / 2.5g fat per 100ml.

Whilst out and about a few days later, we came across Doniford Farm, with a farm shop that sold the dessert in tubs. I couldn’t resist picking up my second hit of sheeps milk iced dessert. This time I opted for simply strawberry, which in some ways I actually preferred. The chocolate was rich and intense, one scoop was definitely plenty to satisfy my cravings. The strawberry on the other hand was creamy yet light and refreshing. The ingredients in the strawberry flavour are:

Whole sheep milk 63%, strawberry sauce 20% (diced strawberry 30%, glucose syrup*, water, sugar*, strawberry concentrate 4%, modified maize starch, natural flavouring, acidity regulators (citric acid, trisodium citrate) pectin, natural colour: anthocyanins) cane sugar*, skimmed sheeps milk powder, dextrose, emulsifiers (mono and diglyercides of fatty acids) stabilisers (locust bean gum, guar gum, carageenan).

(As you can see there is sugar and glucose syrup in this dessert and so is something to bear in mind if you are on a low GI or sugar free diet).

Since coming home, I have done my research and found 3 outlets nearby that sell Styles Sheeps Milk Iced Dessert, so I cannot wait to get out there and try the other flavours.

Thank you Styles for creating Sheeps Milk Iced Dessert, you made my holiday dreams come true and I will definitely be back for more!

    Hi

Thank you so much for your fabulous write up – it has made me smile and smile. I was thrilled to read that you enjoyed our sheeps milk iced dessert and thank you for “spreading the word”. I suffer with various food intolerances myself and I know that it can be difficult to find suitable food when you are out and about. It’s a real pain as I am a total “foodie”. Once again, thank you so much for your fabulous write up – it has made me smile and smile. Best wishes, Sue Baker – Styles Farmhouse Icecream

What a great find! Their stockist finder isn’t working right now but I hope somewhere near me will have some. I love sheep’s milk cheese so I really want to try this 🙂
