Grabbed a bargain in the supermarket last night, some pork fillets, and then found a great recipe for a kind of sticky marinade. Needless to say it was loaded with sugar in the form of Tomato Ketchup. So with a bit of playing I came up with a cheeky Sugar FREE Tomato Ketchup replacement.

Sugar FREE Tomato Ketchup ingredients:

  • Tomato puree – 2tbsp
  • Balsamic vinegar (good quality thick one where possible) – 1tbsp
  • Mustard – 1tsp
  • Salt and pepper
  • Honey (optional) – 1tsp
  • Dried mixed herbs – a good shake

Simple really just mix together all the ingredients. If you are avoiding sugar then ditch the honey, which I did last night and still tastes great. If you can’t tolerate vinegar (yeast) then this can be opted out but you need the honey instead to get the stickiness and taste required.

Once mixed season heavily and taste. You can tweak things around a bit of course depending on your taste. So that’s it my sugar free tomato ketchup, for replacement in recipes.
