Just a quick update on this recipe - the original recipe was turning out to be extremely sweet (and expensive on the agave nectar front) so I've amended the recipe to use 2 tablespoons of agave nectar, with the rest of the liquid being made up with a splash of milk. I made the chewy oat bar last week using these quantities and they work just as well.

Hi Liz,

You can definitely substitute agave nectar for honey yes. I would reduce the quantity thats shown on the recipe though otherwise it'll be SUPER sweet!

I'd go for 2 tbsps of honey melted into the peanut butter with a knob of Pure Soya spread / spread of your choice or a splash of Oatly / milk of your choice.

You want enough fluid to bind the dry oat mixture together so once the peanut butter & honey are melted together, transfer to the dry mixture then add a furthher splash of your choice of milk until the oat mixture combines.

I hope this helps? Let us know how you get on.

Hello Anna...very exicited you tried out the recipe. I made another batch at the weekend just with one big squeeze of Aqave Nectar (actually for Claire to try who has a soya intolerance), so I used some vanilla rice milk to help stick everything together and instead of doing them in a tray I kind of rolled small balls which I flattened into a kind of biscuits.

People thought they looked like chickpea burgers (chraming) but they tasted great!

Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe! Made these yesterday, but with much less agave nectar as it seemed an awful lot. They tasted gorgeous, but fell apart rather a lot! Think I will add soya pure next time as Miranda suggested, to make up for the reduced agave nectar.

Glad u enjoyed it Lou. Is a great recipe Claire.

I dived out to the supermarket this week and got some Agave Nectar so I could give this ago. Boy its def sweet tasting.

I did some small tweaks with my version – less peanut butter (as I knew Lou didnt like it) – I used randomly some tahini instead. I also did half as much <a href = "/foodie/1369/agave-nectar/?phpMyAdmin=1oZT2s9Fo-cCluoroUFXMbLccX4&phpMyAdmin=rSdfLIeZGmdW7BvK5-pWBTfinXf" title="agave nectar"/ rel="nofollow">agave nectar</a>. Couldnt bring myself to put that much in as it was really sweet with half in so could even go less (which makes it cheaper too). I then added a few spoons of Soya Pure (<a href = "/foodie/59/dairy-free-spread-soya-pure/?phpMyAdmin=1oZT2s9Fo-cCluoroUFXMbLccX4&phpMyAdmin=rSdfLIeZGmdW7BvK5-pWBTfinXf" title="Dairy Free Spread"/ rel="nofollow">Dairy Free Spread</a>) which I melted with the Agave to make the consistency of the bars work.
